Fashion Institute of Technology Honors QVC and Designer Dennis Basso

Awards Corporate Personalities

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and the FIT Foundation honored Dennis Basso and QVC at FIT’s annual gala on May 9 in New York City.

Basso, an FIT alumnus, was honored as Designer of the Year for his creative vision and 30-year career in the industry. Basso first appeared on QVC in 1993. Since then, he has sold over 7 million units with QVC, and his popularity with QVC customers continues to grow.  Basso’s line, under the Dennis Basso brand name, consists of an array of lush faux furs, inspired by “the natural untamed beauty of the modern woman who is effortlessly both wild and elegant.” The line also incorporates a variety of everyday pieces, including chic outerwear, evening wear and bedroom home décor.

FIT also named QVC as Retailer of the Year, honoring QVC’s role in fostering the growth of some of today’s most successful brands and in providing a platform where designers and entrepreneurs can tell their unique story to millions of consumers. QVC is establishing a scholarship fund at FIT that will provide seven scholarships a year of $5,000 each for four years to students who come from the countries in which QVC operates. Jill Martin, contributor to NBC’s TODAY and creative director of QVC’s G.I.L.I. got it love it® contemporary fashion and accessories line, presented the Retailer of the Year Award to QVC CEO Mike George.

In addition, the Fashion Institute of Technology also honored iconic and beloved fashion industry leaders John and Laura Pomerantz with the Patron of the Year Award for their longstanding commitment to FIT.

“Our honorees truly understand the importance of nurturing and supporting the next generation of creative talent,” said Joyce F. Brown, president of FIT. “Their ongoing commitment to the FIT community is critical to our success.”
